STUDENT EMPLOYMENT

To apply for on-campus student employment, simply file your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The Financial Aid Office will determine if you are eligible for federal or institutional work study so that you can apply for a campus job with a hiring department.

Students are encouraged to attend the annual Work Study Job Fair and should bring several copies of their resume to campus for hiring supervisors to review. The job fair is during August Orientation each year. See student orientation schedule for time and location.

The purpose of the Carson-Newman Student Employment Program is to provide students an opportunity to earn money to assist with educational expenses and gain valuable work experience in a position that will still prioritize their classes and academics. Carson-Newman employs over 300 students during the academic year.

Students can let the Financial Aid Office know they are wanting to have a work study position so that we can determine eligibility and award a federal work study placeholder on the student’s aid package. Being awarded student employment (FWS) gives you priority to positions available on campus but does not secure an available position. Students will still have to meet interview expectations of hiring supervisors, so respond to any requests from hiring supervisors for job interviews or follow-up phone calls. You have not completely secured an available position until you and your supervisor has signed an official Hiring Agreement.

All policies and procedures can be easily obtained by reviewing the Student Employment Handbook. This is the best resource for student employees and supervisors to know their rights, responsibilities, policies, and procedures of the Student Employee Program.

Once you have been hired (completed hiring agreement with all signatures) for an on-campus position, the following documents must be read and completed prior to your first day of employment:

(PDFs will need to be linked if they remain on the site)

You must also submit the following two forms of ID:

  • U.S. Social Security Card / Valid work visa information if international student
  • U.S. Driver’s License
